A High-Tech Ceramic Case Meets the Signature Wandering Hours Display.
Just a year after the UR-230 Eagle, the first model in the 230 series entirely crafted from TPT carbon, Urwerk is already taking this collection in a fresh and innovative direction. With its technical foundation unchanged, the UR-230 Polaris introduces a new intent with a striking pure white material developed exclusively and proprietary to URWERK. It represents a new material, a new color, and the same advanced mechanisms as the UR-230 Eagle, though this sportier edition foregoes the signature carbon cover of its predecessor.
The UR-230 Polaris features the same case design as the UR-200 collection, though it is now executed in white ceramic. This new case is made from a layered, ceramic-based composite combining polymer, woven ceramic, and fiberglass plies. First developed for aerospace and medical industries, this highly technical material combines the performance benefits of its constituents into a durable, lightweight case.
The design features a trapezoidal shape with pronounced elongation toward the 6 o’clock position, a staggered layout encircling the sapphire apertures, and an ergonomically placed crown at 12 o’clock. The acute yet softened angles are managed seamlessly, while the case back is crafted from grooved, black DLC titanium, providing a comfortable, dermo-compatible fit.
The UR-230 Polaris retains the signature Wandering Hours system found in the UR-230 Eagle and UR-220. This display consists of the Wandering hours. On a three-armed carrousel, rotating blocks each carry four hours’ numerals. They scroll along a 120-degree sector, with the face of the current hour pointing towards the observer. To display the minutes, these display cubes are embedded in an aluminium 3D retrograde hand. At the end of its 60-minute journey, this skeletonised hand returns to index 0, where it takes charge of the cube displaying the next hour.
Two innovative features accompany this display system. The first is a world-first shock-absorber system using turbines designed to protect the UR-7.30 movement. The first turbine set absorbs external shocks to ensure the movement’s robustness and durability. A second set regulates airflow, functioning as an "air brake" that modulates winding power based on the wearer’s activity. This adjustment is controlled via a rotating knob on the case back.
Additionally, a secondary switch allows the wearer to completely disengage the rotor, switching the UR-230 Polaris to manual winding mode. Both of these adjustments are visually indicated by two symmetrical displays located at 11 and 1 o’clock on the dial.
The UR-230 Polaris is powered by the UR-7.30 caliber, a movement combining both automatic and manual winding modes. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the UR-7.30 offers a 48-hour power reserve powered by two barrels and features a bronze counterweight for balance and stability. This movement is securely housed within a protective structure referred to as a container.
The UR-230 Polaris comes with a white strap featuring a black interior. The watch is a limited edition of just 35 pieces worldwide and is priced at CHF 150,000, which translates to approximately AED 627,000.
