Titanium, tungsten, and a bold aesthetic define the Italian brand’s latest timepieces
In a previous article, we discussed Italian brands in the watch industry. Among them, U-Boat stood out for its distinctive designs. U-Boat is an Italian watch brand founded in 2000 by Italo Fontana, drawing inspiration from designs created by his grandfather, Ilvo Fontana, in 1942. Ilvo was commissioned by the Italian Navy to develop robust wristwatches for pilots, prioritizing maximum visibility and water resistance. Although these designs were never realized during his time, Italo brought them to life decades later.

Now, the Italian company has unveiled its latest addition to the Classico collection: a trio of chronographs, the Classico 45 Titanium Tungsten, available in blue, grey, or black.
The case is crafted from Grade 2 titanium, while the bezel is made of matte tungsten. U-Boat's signature oversized crown is positioned on the left side of the case, featuring a trademark large crown cover secured by a protective latch.
A patented discreet pusher at 8:30 allows for easy crown extraction, while two additional pushers at 8:00 and 10:00 control the chronograph functions.
The case back, secured with seven screws, ensures water resistance up to 100 meters and offers a glimpse of the movement through a sapphire crystal window, laser-cut in the shape of a U.
The three-level metal dial features an upper layer with a waffle pattern and is available in black, grey, or blue. The indices are in low relief, while the numerals are in high relief, all coated with black Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility. The metal hands, also treated with black Super-LumiNova, are complemented by a red 24-hour hand and a date window at 9 o’clock.
The chronograph subdials are arranged with a rectangular small seconds counter at 3 o’clock, a 30-minute chronograph counter at 6 o’clock, accompanied by a 24-hour counter with a red hand, and a 12-hour chronograph counter at 12 o’clock. These subdials feature contrasting colors: black for the grey and blue versions, and grey for the black-dial version.
Powering the timepiece is the Swiss Sellita SW500 automatic movement, featuring a personalized rotor. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers a 62-hour power reserve.
Completing the watch is an Alcantara strap with a titanium buckle. The Classico Chrono is a limited edition, with only 299 numbered pieces per color. Each model is priced at €4,900, approximately 18,700 AED.
