Introducing Seiko Unveils Two Prospex Speedtimers

Expanding the vintage inspired collection with new dials

Last year, Seiko introduced a new dimension to its Prospex collection with the launch of two contemporary Speedtimer chronographs. These models embody the classic design spirit inspired by Seiko’s historic watches and continue the design themes established by their predecessors. Featuring a refreshingly classic style, they blend vintage design elements with modern specifications, highlighting Seiko’s deep connection to its heritage. Now, the latest addition to this vintage-inspired series is the “Seiko Prospex Speedtimer" with two hues.

Both watches are encased in a 42mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 14.6mm, featuring an elegant blend of brushed and polished surfaces. This sophisticated finish is further enhanced by a hardened coating for improved durability and scratch resistance. The dial is protected by a double-curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment, while a solid steel case back ensures secure housing of the movement. As chronographs, the pushers for starting and stopping the chronograph are positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock. Additionally, the watches offer water resistance up to 100 meters.

The SRQ051 features a blue dial with red accents on the chronograph hands, while the SRQ053 is distinguished by a black dial with red-tipped chronograph hands. Both versions include the Tri-Compax layout, and date window positioned between 4 and 5 o'clock, silver indexes and hours and minutes hands with Lumibrite coating, it's a new luminous material that is brighter and longer-lasting than conventional luminous paints., and a tachymetric scale on the dial's edge, complemented by a white-printed minute track on the inner edge.

The Prospex Speedtimer Chronographs SRQ051 and SRQ053 are powered by in-house calibre 8R48. This automatic movement features a sophisticated column wheel and vertical clutch mechanism, providing a precise operation of the chronograph functions. Operating at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the calibre 8R48 incorporates “MEMS” -it's miniature machines consisting of mechanical parts and electronic elements that work together to perform different functions-, technology to enhance both strength and lightness in its escapement. With a 45-hour power reserve, the movement offers an accuracy specified at +25/-15 seconds per day.

The watches come on a hard-coated stainless steel bracelet with a triple-folding clasp and push-button release. They will be available from October 1, 2024, and are priced at USD 2,500, equivalent to AED 9,175.
