In 2019, Raketa reintroduced the Copernicus watch, originally created in 1965 to honor Nicolaus Copernicus, the astronomer who transformed 16th-century science by proving that the Earth orbits the Sun, rather than the reverse, as previously believed. Today, we take a closer look at Raketa’s latest release, the Copernicus 0307, a new addition to this iconic collection featuring a beautiful aventurine stone dial.

The case of the watch is crafted from stainless steel, measuring 39.5 mm in diameter, offering a durable and sleek design that looks great on the wrist. The dial is crafted from aventurine stone, resembling a starry sky, with the Sun represented at the center by a circle made of agate stone. The dial and hands are designed to resemble planets orbiting the Sun, moving in harmony as they mark their positions relative to the Sun and one another, performing a cosmic dance against the sparkling aventurine backdrop. The concept behind the original Raketa Copernicus design is that the larger circle, representing the minute hand, symbolizes Earth, while the smaller circle, representing the hour hand, symbolizes Jupiter. These planets were chosen because Earth takes 1 year to orbit the Sun, and Jupiter 12 years—mirroring the same ratio as the minute and hour hands, which complete their revolutions in 1 hour and 12 hours, respectively.

The watch is powered by the in-house Calibre 2615, produced at the Raketa Watch Factory in Saint Petersburg. This automatic movement offers a power reserve of 40 hours and operates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5Hz). The movement is elegantly finished, featuring a gold-plated rotor adorned with Neva wave decorations. The watch comes with a stainless steel mesh bracelet and is priced at AED 9,250.
