First Look Raketa Continues Their Strategy of Reintroducing Iconic Editions with the Polar

The Robust Watch Once Made for Explorers During the Antarctic Expedition is Revived with a new design

The Russian brand Raketa, often regarded as the heartbeat of the Russian watch industry, has recently embarked on a new endeavor to reintroduce its historic timepieces. This journey began with the unveiling of The Sonar, followed by the introduction of The Russian Code, a distinguished model featuring a counterclockwise movement. Now, the spotlight shifts to the Raketa Polar watch, specifically crafted for polar expeditions, making its return to Raketa’s permanent collection with a fresh design.

The Raketa Polar Watch is a homage to an iconic timepiece originally crafted in 1970. Utilized by Russian explorers during the 16th Soviet Antarctic Expedition, this watch was indispensable in the harshest of conditions. it was purposefully engineered to meet the demands of their extreme environment.

The solid and robust 41.6 mm case, featuring straight facets and sharp angles, is particularly suited for the demands of polar expeditions. This case design is complemented harmoniously by a stainless-steel bracelet, accentuating the masculine essence of the timepiece.

The rotating bezel is intricately engraved and enameled with the names of all the seas of the Arctic Ocean and their respective time zones in Russian, facilitating the use of the GMT function. This 24-hour watch with a rotating bezel can also serve as a solar compass in both the northern and southern hemispheres. With a sapphire crystal covering the dial and the case back, the watch is water-resistant up to 200m.

The 24-hour dial proves indispensable for timekeeping beyond the polar circles, where polar day and polar night can extend for up to six months each. Six lines segment the dial's perimeter into six quarters, each representing four hours, enabling every crew member to track their watches or shifts during maritime expeditions. Another distinctive aspect of the dial is its special Superluminova coating, reminiscent of the northern lights. This coating spans the entire surface of the dial and hands, ensuring impeccable legibility even in complete polar darkness. While the hours are indicated in Arabic numerals printed in black, the minutes railtrack marked around the dial. Blue and red accents serve as the watch's signature colors.

The back of the watch unveils the exquisitely adorned automatic movement caliber 2624A, entirely crafted by the Raketa Watch Factory in Saint Petersburg. The finishing of the rotor echoes the ethereal beauty of the northern lights. Operating at 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz), it offers a power reserve of 40 hours.

Each Raketa Polar watch comes with a certificate verifying its technical suitability for enduring the most extreme natural conditions of polar regions. This certification is granted within the framework of the "Arctic Voluntary Certification System" by the Nizhny Novgorod Testing Centre.

Priced at 7,950 AED, the watch joins the permanent collection and is now available for order on waqtshop.
