The first auction dedicated specifically to Japanese watch collecting
Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo is thrilled to announce “TOKI(刻),” the first-ever thematic auction dedicated to the Japanese watch collecting world. “TOKI(刻),” meaning "time" in Japanese, will take place in Hong Kong this November at Phillips’ Asia headquarters in the West Kowloon Cultural District, alongside the Hong Kong Watch Auction XIX. Highlights from the previous Hong Kong Watch Auction XVIII can also be explored.
The “TOKI(刻)” thematic sale will feature significant watches by leading global brands made exclusively for the Japanese market, timepieces previously owned by discerning Japanese collectors, and unique pieces created by renowned Japanese independent watchmakers, such as Naoya Hida and Hajime Asaoka. This auction pays tribute to one of the world's most historically significant watch markets.
For this special event, Phillips is excited to partner with HODINKEE Japan, leveraging their deep insights into the Japanese watch market to provide informative reviews of notable timepieces featured in the sale.
Early highlights from the auction include an Omega Speedmaster Apollo XI 25th Anniversary, sold in Japan with the luxury department store Takashimaya’s stamp, and a never-worn Rolex Cosmograph Daytona purchased from Matsuzakaya, a historical department store chain in Japan. These highlights will be showcased in touring exhibitions and appraisal sessions in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka throughout July.
Phillips started this year by breaking records at the XIX Geneva Auction, the maison's first fair of the year. Watch our top five picks from the event in this video featuring Alexandre Ghotbi, Deputy Chairman, Head of Watches Europe and the Middle East at Phillips.
Following the record-breaking auction in Geneva, the Hong Kong auction saw Cartier’s La Pendule Magnétique Water Clock set new records. We eagerly anticipate what Phillips will unveil in the coming days.
