Reviving an icon from the golden age of diving watches
Vulcain has been around since 1858, building a rich catalog of timepieces, from the iconic Cricket to the bold chronographs of the 1970s. The brand also has a taste for dive watches, in 2023, it brought back the Skindiver Nautique 38mm, a modern take on its 1960s iconic Nautique. And last year, Vulcain expanded the collection with four new references, keeping the momentum going.
But Vulcain’s history with dive watches goes beyond the Skindiver Nautique. Back in the 1960s, the brand also produced a chronograph version of the Skindiver. Now, Vulcain is bringing it back with a modern reissue: the Skindiver Chronograph.
The watch features a 40mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 13mm blending brushed and polished finishes. It’s equipped with a bidirectional rotating bezel featuring a black ceramic insert that houses both a 60-minute and a 12-hour scale. A domed sapphire crystal sits on top, while a screw-down crown and a screw-in engraved steel case back, ensure 200 meters of water resistance.

The Skindiver Chronograph is available in two dial variations. One sports a black dial with silver sub-dials and orange accents, while the other features a white "panda" dial with black sub-dials. Applied hour markers and hands with luminous coating enhance readability in low-light conditions. The dial also includes a tachymeter and a decimal scale, used with the chronograph to measure time and convert it into decimal values. Unlike the original, which had a 45-minute counter, the new version features a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock, with a unique three-minute marker, orange for the black dial and red for the white dial. However the small seconds subdial remains at 9 o’clock.
The watch is powered by the ETA Valjoux 7753, an automatic chronograph movement running at 28,800 vph (4Hz) with a 42-hour power reserve. Buyers can choose from a variety of straps, including a black leather or rubber strap, a steel bracelet, and a classic beads-of-rice bracelet.
The Skindiver Chronograph joins Vulcain’s permanent collection, priced at EUR 2,700, approximately AED 10,300 for any strap option, and EUR 2,980, approximately AED 11,400 for the bracelet version.
