Introducing Urwerk Revives the UR-101 Design with a Fresh Look

Urwerk introduces its latest timepiece, the UR-101 T-Rex, a bold reinterpretation of the original UR-101 model. This newest edition marks the third Urwerk watch to receive the T-Rex treatment, following the release of the UR-105 T-Rex in 2016 and the UR-100 T-Rex in 2021. Its rounded case serves as the perfect canvas for the intricate guilloché engraving, enhancing the watch’s distinctive character and appeal.

Originally launched in 1997, the UR-101 was inspired by the legendary "Millennium Falcon" spacecraft from the Star Wars saga. Today, it undergoes a daring transformation with a rugged, scale-like textured case that extends from the dial across the entire watch, including the bezel, case sides, and upper parts of the bracelet. Unlike most watches, where guilloché engraving is confined to the dial beneath the sapphire crystal, the T-Rex editions feature this ornate pattern across much of the exterior, giving them a unique aesthetic.

The case is crafted from bronze, engraved with a guilloché pattern, then oxidized and polished to create a finish that evolves over time. The brown hue deepens naturally without turning green, while the case sides, upper surfaces, and caseback are meticulously sculpted with a slight curvature to enhance wearing comfort. The crown and caseback are made from black PVD-coated steel.

Measuring 41mm in diameter and 11.86mm thick at the highest point of its domed dial, the watch is designed to sit naturally on the wrist. Its curvature ensures a comfortable fit, with the case sitting higher at 12 o’clock than at 7 o’clock, and features an integrated crown for easy time-setting.

The dial seamlessly integrates with the guilloché-engraved case, creating a harmonious aesthetic. Time is displayed through a window in the lower half of the dial, where two rotating satellites move along a 180-degree scale to indicate the hours and minutes. The hour numerals appear through an aperture in a rotating disk, while the minute scale is printed along the edge, marked in five-minute increments. The indicators are coated with yellow Super-LumiNova for optimal legibility in low light.

Powering the watch is the automatic UR-1.01V caliber, operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offering a 48-hour power reserve. Most movement components are crafted from brass and copper, featuring high-end finishes, including a spiral motif, sandblasted elements, and satin-brushed detailing.

The UR-101 T-Rex is paired with a black rubber strap lined with black calfskin leather and secured by a black DLC-coated steel pin buckle. Limited to just 100 pieces, the watch is priced at 38,000 Swiss francs, approximately 158,500 AED.
