Collaborating with the American lifestyle brand HUF gives the collection a fresh new look
The Seiko 5 Sports collection is some sort of a cornerstone for watch enthusiasts, known for its robust design, reliable performance, and accessible price point. Among the most iconic sports watches, the Seiko 5 stands out as a good choice for those new to mechanical watches or anyone seeking a stylish, simple daily timepiece. This year, the collection has expanded with exciting releases, including the “Kamen Rider” SRPL03 and SRPL05, as well as the Denham Limited Edition SRPL35. Now, Seiko has teamed up with the skateboarding and streetwear brand HUF to introduce the Seiko 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition, a fresh and dynamic take on the beloved series.
The watch draws inspiration from the iconic Seiko 5 Sports models that rose to prominence in the late 1960s, infused with a vibrant color scheme crafted in collaboration with HUF. Retaining the collection's signature dimensions, the watch features a 42.5mm diameter and a 13.4mm thickness, housed in a stainless steel case with a mix of brushed and polished finishes. Additionally, the crown is positioned at 4 o'clock.
A black unidirectional rotating bezel with silver numerals and a striking red accent for the first 20 minutes adds a bold touch. The dial is shielded by a curved Hardlex crystal, while the green-tinted transparent caseback offers a view of the movement. The caseback also displays the words “LIMITED EDITION” alongside the serial number.
The silver dial features a captivating sunray pattern, complemented by applied hands and indices filled with LumiBrite inserts, Seiko's advanced luminous paint, renowned for its brightness and ability to last up to ten times longer than conventional alternatives, a feature also present on the bezel. At the 3 o'clock position, you can see the iconic day-date window, while a vibrant lime green central seconds hand infuses the design with a unique and playful touch.
At the heart of the watch is the Calibre 4R36, an in-house automatic movement that operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz) and offers a power reserve of 41 hours. It is paired with a stainless steel bracelet featuring a three-fold clasp with a secure lock and push-button release. The watch is limited to 7,000 pieces, and priced at USD 380, approximately AED 1,400.
