Welcome to the hub of the horoloy
A new addition to the french mansion’s iconic collection with counterclockwise hands
In 1904, Cartier introduced the Santos-Dumont, marking the inception of the first commercially available men's dress watch. Crafted in collaboration with the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, over the years, the Santos-Dumont became a symbol of sophistication and a Cartier icon. This year, Cartier unveils the Santos-Dumont Rewind, a new exceptional variant that features counterclockwise hands.
The watch comes in a platinum case measuring 31.5mm in diameter, 43.5mm in length, and 7.3mm in thickness, with a beautiful combination of brushed and polished finishes, and the iconic ruby cabochon in the crown. Its iconic square bezel, adorned with rounded edges and eight screws, boasts a polished surface.
The dial features open-tipped hands that are rhodium plated, carnelian lacquered with roman numerals that are inverted, indicating that time is interpreted in reverse, contrary to the conventional reading, It's the first time we have seen this type of time reading from Cartier, but certainly not the only time we have seen it, as hublot and the Russian brand Raketa had it in its catalogs a long time ago. Powering the new Santos-Dumont is the 230 MC caliber, which is based on Piaget’s ultra thin caliber 430 MC, but featuring the counterclockwise movement of the hands. This manual winding movement operates at a frequency of 21,600vph (3Hz), and offers 38 hours of power reserve.
The new Santos-Dumont Rewind is Limited to 200 numbered pieces, and comes with a Semi-matte brown alligator leather strap with a platinum ardillon buckle, priced at CHF 37,000 which is equivalent to AED 150,000.
