A Historic Launch, The First New Release from the Brand in 25 Years
After 25 years, Patek Philippe is enriching its vast array of timepieces with an entirely new collection that stands out for its unique blend of daring design and elegance. Endowed with a highly original square-shaped case with rounded corners and a dial adorned with horizontal relief embossing, the new Cubitus (registered design) makes its debut in three versions. The technical model, Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day, and Moon Phases, Reference 5822P-001 in platinum, is powered by a new movement with instantaneous displays, for which six patent applications have been filed. Also available are the vintage-inspired Cubitus model Reference 5821/1AR-001 in steel and rose gold with a blue sunburst dial, and Cubitus Reference 5821/1A-001 in steel, featuring an olive-green sunburst dial.
Patek Philippe, known for creating some of the most renowned and instantly recognizable watches in the horological world, consistently releases timepieces that captivate collectors. Their prices often reach extraordinary levels, as seen earlier this year at Only Watch, where the Patek Philippe Grande & Petite Sonnerie 6301A sold for 15.7 million Swiss francs, becoming the third most expensive watch in the world—while the first is also a Patek.
Patek’s releases always capture the attention of the watch world, as seen at the last Watches and Wonders event, where they introduced new models, but not an entirely new collection like this one. The last time Patek launched a completely new collection was in 1999 with the Twenty~4, while the last major design was the Aquanaut in 1997. Their most famous model, the Nautilus, dates back to 1976, and you can read our detailed article comparing two of its most iconic editions.
According to the company’s press release, the Cubitus collection represents Patek Philippe’s goal to reinterpret the “elegant sporty” style by exploring an original square geometry. For this new collection, Patek Philippe developed an entirely innovative design, where the square bezel adopts rounded corners, blending elements of the square, circle, and octagon. The Cubitus case also features unique design elements, with two attachments on either side and a two-part construction (back/caseband + bezel) with casing-up done from the front. Measuring 45 mm in diameter with a slender profile, it ensures timeless elegance. All three models share this design, with the Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day, and Moon Phases being slightly thicker (1.3 mm more) due to the added complications. Additionally, while the Instantaneous model is made of platinum, the simpler day and date models come in steel and a two-tone version combining steel and rose gold. The finishing includes vertical satin-brushing on the bezel’s flat surface and case front, polished chamfers on the bezel, and polished case flanks, with all models featuring a sapphire crystal case back.
The square-shaped case is paired with an integrated bracelet that combines flexibility and strength. The alternating polished and vertical satin-brushed finishes highlight the bold modern design, with the bracelet’s metal matching the case material for each model for time and date only. While the Instantaneous Grand Date, Day & Moon Phase edition comes with a dark blue strap and a platinum buckle.
Patek Philippe Cubitus Time and Date Only
The dial is available in distinct colors for each version. The steel model showcases an olive-green sunburst pattern, while the steel and rose gold version features a blue sunburst pattern with horizontal relief embossing.
Gold-applied hour indices with white luminescent coating (rose gold for the two-tone edition) ensure easy readability, complemented by gold baton-style hands (white gold for the steel edition, rose gold for the two-tone). A rhodium-plated seconds hand and a date window at 3 o’clock complete the sophisticated look.
Powering these models is the in-house Caliber 26-330 S C automatic movement, consisting of 212 components and 30 jewels, with a 21K gold central rotor engraved with horizontal decorations, providing unidirectional winding for optimal performance. The steel edition is priced at CHF 35,000 (approx. AED 148,000), while the rose gold and steel version is priced at CHF 52,000 (approx. AED 220,000).

Patek Philippe Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day, and Moon Phases
While the first two models only display the time and date, the third version, made of platinum, features more complications and a thicker case. This model, which uses a micro rotor rather than a central rotor, is powered by the brand-new in-house Caliber 240 PS CI J LU automatic movement. It features a 21K gold micro rotor engraved with horizontal decoration and unidirectional winding, consisting of 353 components and 52 jewels.
The dial has a blue sunburst pattern with horizontal relief embossing, gold-applied hour indices with white luminescent coating, and gold baton-style hands. A rhodium-plated seconds hand, a big date window at 12 o'clock, a small second at 5 o'clock, and a moon phase with a day indication at 8 o'clock add to its complexity and elegance. This platinum model is priced at CHF 75,000, approximately AED 318,000.
