A specially crafted piece inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s beautiful painting, The Starry Night
Beyond their differences, cars and watches share a profound connection rooted in craftsmanship, innovation, and a pursuit of perfection. This synergy is exemplified in the journey of Jean Todt, a well known figure in motorsport. On 1 July 1993, Jean moved from Peugeot to Ferrari, assuming the role of Manager of Ferrari's Racing Division. Under his leadership from 1993 to 2008, Scuderia Ferrari clinched an astonishing 14 Formula One World titles, including 8 Constructors' and 6 Drivers' titles, with 5 to the legendary Michael Schumacher.
Beyond the racetrack, Jean is also known for his passion for fine timepieces, a facet of his character that illuminates his discerning taste and appreciation for craftsmanship. Among his collection is the latest timepiece from the independent watchmaker Krayon, a brand known for its “Anywhere” and "Everywhere" collections, the world's first mechanical watch capable of displaying sunrise and sunset times worldwide. The latest timepiece, the Krayon Anywhere "for Jean Todt," is a unique piece specially crafted for Jean Todt with a métiers d’art dial inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s beautiful painting, The Starry Night.
The timepiece is presented in a platinum 950 case measuring 39mm in diameter and 9.5mm in thickness. It features a sapphire crystal on both the front and the caseback, ensuring water resistance of up to 30 meters. The watch features a métiers d’art dial, showcasing a miniature lacquer, by hand in a myriad of colors. This artistic inspired dial, harmonizing seamlessly with the beautiful astronomical backdrop of the unique complication envisioned by Remi Maillat, the founder of Krayon.
A similar design ethos was seen during the brand's inaugural appearance at the Only Watch charity auction in 2021, where the spotlight shone on the "Anywhere Métiers d'Art" watch. The central hands serve to indicate the current time, complemented by a date and month disk positioned at the bottom, featuring the inscription "JEAN TODT." The daytime sector (sky blue) and nighttime sector (dark blue) fluctuate in length to reflect real-time sunrise and sunset times, as indicated by the flange, which also serves as the day/night indicator.
Powering the watch is the in-house caliber C030, a manually wound movement that operates at 21,600 vph (3Hz) and offers an 86 hour power reserve. The watch comes with a blue grained calfskin leather strap with a platinum pin buckle.
