Blue Lapis Lazuli Dial Celebrates the Brand’s 25th Anniversary
Gerald Charles is a Swiss luxury watch brand that carries the legacy of its founder, Gerald Genta, one of the most respected watch designers of the 20th century. Established in 2000, the brand was a continuation of Genta's design philosophy, which had already left a significant mark on iconic timepieces such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus. While Gerald Charles may not have reached the same level of global recognition as some of its predecessor's works, it remains committed to high-quality craftsmanship and refined design, with each timepiece reflecting Genta’s meticulous approach to horology.
Following Genta's passing in 2011, the Gerald Charles name was revitalized under the leadership of Federico Zefiani, a move that ensured the continuation of Genta's vision. In recent years, Gerald Charles has continued to evolve while honoring the principles of design and precision that have made Genta’s work legendary. Through this balanced approach, the brand has built a quiet yet respected presence within the luxury watch market. To commemorate Gerald Charles’s 25th anniversary. Today, the brand has introduced a limited edition of the Maestro collection that marks a significant milestone in its history, "Maestro 2.0 Lapis Lazuli" watch. This special edition features a unique dial made from natural stone, a tribute to the timeless artistry and natural beauty that defines Swiss watchmaking.
The watch comes in a meticulously crafted polished stainless-steel case that combines both elegance and durability. The colormix blue-coated bezel adds a subtle yet striking contrast to the design, while the flat sapphire crystal is treated with multi-layer internal and external anti-reflection coatings, ensuring optimal clarity and visibility. A screw-down crown with a distinctive Clous de Paris finish and an embossed logo adds a refined touch, further enhancing the overall aesthetic. The caseback is also fitted with a sapphire crystal, allowing a glimpse into the intricate movement within. With a diameter of 39×41 mm and a thickness of just 9 mm, the case strikes a perfect balance between compactness and presence, while offering a respectable water resistance of 100 meters, making it suitable for everyday wear.
The watch features a stunning Lapis Lazuli dial, paying tribute to Mr, and a first for the brand. Genta's favorite gemstone. The dial is adorned with applied silver hour indices, adding a touch of sophistication, while the Super-LumiNova hour and minute hands and the indices ensure legibility in low light. A white printed minute train track runs along the dial's edges, enhancing its classic aesthetic. At 6 o'clock, a date window offers added functionality.
The watch is powered by the caliber 2.0 automatic movement, a sophisticated mechanical caliber consisting of 189 components. This movement features a customized gold rotor that commemorates the brand’s 25th anniversary, adorned with the Maison's new logo as a nod to its continued legacy. Operating at 28,800 vph (4Hz), the movement ensures precise timekeeping. It offers a stop seconds mechanism and offers 50-hour power reserve, and it is decorated with Côtes de Genève motifs.
The watch comes on a rubber strap adorned with the “Clou de Paris” pattern. Although it is not part of a limited edition, its availability will remain limited due to the scarcity of materials such as lapis lazuli, as well as the intricate handcrafting processes required to create its exquisite dial, which takes approximately 24 hours to complete per dial.
