From mechanical to chemical creativity, a purple color through titanium treatment.
Purple, once called the color of kings because of its rarity and cost of production, is a traditional dye. In the world of watchmaking, it is also a rare thing, until De Bethune comes and innovates in presenting this royal color with its artistic touch. Instead of relying on traditional methods of painting, the company went further than that and even introduced the color through a heat treatment process for titanium. After many colors distinguished by this chemical method, the company had introduced black and blue, and now it offers a new color, violet.
After De Bethune surprised us with their most complicated watch the double-faced Kind of Grand Complication; the independent brand has ventured to the other side of the spectrum by introducing a time-only watch. Yes, it's a classic, simple timepiece, but with a Bethune touch. The titanium in purple, with the material itself being purple, showcases the use of grade five titanium, which undergoes a unique heat and chemical treatment to achieve this exceptionally vibrant color.
Remaining true to the essence found in all models within its collection, the DB28xs Purple Rain consistently astonishes with the lightweight design of its case. Constructed entirely from polished purple grade 5 titanium, featuring a small case size of 38.7 mm in diameter and 7.4 mm in thickness. Adorned with floating lugs that adjust to the size and various movements of the wrist, thanks to a patented De Bethune system, the case boasts a more contoured profile, tracing the natural lines of the wrist. The distinctive purple hue is achieved through the natural oxidation of the material, turning each timepiece into a one-of-a-kind work of art. The bezel is mirror polished, and the trademark crown at 12 o'clock adds a signature touch. The enchantment of this watch extends to the back with a screwed case back in polished purple titanium, revealing a riple pare-chute shock-absorbing system. the case and the caseback protected by sapphire crystal glass with double anti-reflective coating.
The dial, entirely crafted from purple titanium plate, breathes new life into and modernizes the traditional guilloché technique across its expansive flat surface, while the company's starry sky dial pattern, adorned with white gold stars, embellishes the dial. The titanium hour ring boasts a purple polished ring decoration with transferred Arabic numerals. and the minuts track surrounded the dial. The hands also come in polished titanium.
