60 Years of Elegance and Precision, Celebrating Cricket Nautical Milestone
After the successful launch of the Skindiver, The trade mark Vulcain continues to impress and build on their momentum by reintroducing the Cricket Nautical, a diving timepiece that made its debut over six decades ago.
The Cricket Nautical, introduced in 1961, held a unique distinction among watch manufacturers as it was the only diver's watch equipped with an aquatic alarm, audible even underwater. Its reliable signaling to ascend was made possible by the innovative 'triple case back’, which acted as a resonance chamber. Beyond its aquatic alarm function, the watch offered functional benefits for scuba diving enthusiasts, including no stop tables for precise calculations. Meanwhile, lovers of vintage timepieces were drawn to its distinct and appealing aesthetic.

The Cricket Nautical has its roots in a joint venture involving three specialists “ Hannes Keller”,” Max-Yves Brandily”, “Arthur Droz”, with Vulcain. Together, they created the pioneering diver's watch featuring an integrated system on the dial to calculate dive times and a functioning alarm to indicate the diver's ascent. With an elegant design, the timepiece offered remarkable water resistance up to 300 meters.
Vulcain honors the legacy of Hannes Keller, who passed away on December 25, 2022, by commemorating his accomplishments. On November 3, 1966, in Toulon, France, Keller achieved an impressive depth of nearly 250 meters with the Cricket Nautical watch on his wrist. His record was verified by the esteemed Jacques Cousteau, who invented the “aqualung” , a system that made it possible to breathe for long periods of time underwater.

Similar to its forerunner, the Cricket Nautical offers generous proportions with a 42mm diameter, ensuring effortless usability and clear readability underwater. It incorporates two superimposed dials, one fixed and one rotating adjustable with a dedicated crown at 4 o'clock. These dials assist divers in calculating decompression times according to their dive duration and depth settings. A rectangular aperture displays the necessary stop times at 9, 6, and 3 meters during the ascent after a prolonged underwater exploration.
In 2011, in honor of its golden jubilee, the Vulcain trade mark released a limited edition of 1961 timepieces. Staying true to the original model, this special edition incorporates cutting-edge technological advancements, elevating its sturdiness and dependability to new heights. Fast forward a decade, and the 60th anniversary edition of the Cricket Nautical retains its captivating allure. A remarkable addition to its design is the presence of a sapphire crystal, bolstering its resilience even further. The watch is offered in two captivating versions, both remaining faithful to the spirit of the original Nautical model.
The first rendition boasts a black dial adorned with faux-patina indexes and hands, accompanied by an emerald green minute track. The second variant features a black dial adorned with white Super-LumiNova hour markers and hands, accentuated by a lagoon blue minute track. Each version exudes a distinct charm, appealing to connoisseurs with varied tastes.

In addition to its stunning aesthetics, the new Cricket Nautical houses the Vulcain Cricket Manufacture V-10 caliber, adding a touch of vintage allure and serving as a heartfelt homage to the pioneering era of diving.
The technological advancements and flawless craftsmanship showcased in the Cricket Nautical evolution are a testament to the pursuit of horological excellence by the Vulcain Manufacture Le Locle. With each tick of its intricate mechanism, the Cricket Nautical bridges the past and the present, inviting wearers to embark on a timeless journey where tradition meets innovation in perfect harmony.
