A Mother-of-Pearl Dial Edition Commemorating 100 Years of Watchmaking Excellence
Founded in 1918, Citizen introduced its first watch in 1924, a timepiece that bore the brand's name and marked the beginning of its legacy. Subsequently, Citizen unveiled a series of distinguished collections, among which the Series 8 collection stands out, featuring several remarkable editions, including the "Series 8 890" model. Today, as Citizen celebrates the centenary of its first branded timepiece, the brand reveals its latest masterpiece, the "Series 8 880 GMT," a fitting tribute to a century of horological excellence and innovation.
The watch features a two-piece case in grey and blue ion-plated stainless steel. The alternating brushed and polished finishes give the case a modern, dynamic feel, while the 41mm diameter and 13.5mm thickness offer a balanced and comfortable fit. It also has a glossy black and blue bidirectional bezel. A transparent sapphire crystal case back provides a view of the movement, and the watch’s water resistance to 100 meters ensures reliability in various environments. This limited edition combines elegant design with powerful functionality.
The watch features a mother-of-pearl dial with a blue hue, creating a captivating visual effect as it catches the light. The applied hour and minute hands, filled with SuperLumiNova, ensure optimal readability in low light. The blued GMT hand stands out, while the minute track around the dial’s edge is printed in bright white, providing a sharp contrast against the rich blue background. Dark grey finishes on the hour, minute, second hands and indexes enhance the overall aesthetic, and a date window at 3 o’clock adds a practical touch to the elegant design.
The watch is powered by the Caliber 9054, a mechanical movement developed exclusively for Citizen by Miyota. Featuring a GMT function, the movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz), and boasts a power reserve of up to 50 hours. It offers reliable performance with an average daily accuracy of -10/+20 seconds and a magnetic resistance of up to 16,000 A/m. Aesthetic details like gold-filled engraved lettering and striped decoration on the bridges and signed rotor add a touch of elegance, all visible through the transparent case back.
It comes with a bracelet in two-tone ion-plated stainless steel. The watch it's a limited edition of 2,200 pieces, and priced at EUR 1,290 equivalent to AED 5,160.
