The Iconic Ladies' Timepiece Returns in a Special Valentine’s Day Release
The "Reine de Naples" watch by Breguet is one of the most renowned women's timepieces and is believed to be the first wristwatch ever created. Abraham-Louis Breguet crafted it for Queen Caroline Murat, the Queen of Naples and the younger sister of Napoleon Bonaparte. We previously explored this story and Breguet’s rich history of achievements in this article.
The name "Reine de Naples" is iconic for this women's watch, as it translates from French to "Queen of Naples." It has always been a distinguished design to celebrate special occasions for women. Today, the maison presents a new release in celebration of Valentine’s Day—the "Reine de Naples 9915," a limited edition of only 28 pieces.
The case of this timepiece is crafted from 18K white gold and features an elegant ovoid shape. It is enhanced by a double anti-reflective sapphire crystal for optimal clarity. The caseback is also made of sapphire crystal, offering a glimpse into the watch's intricate movement. The case is beautifully adorned with 97 brilliant-cut diamonds (1.682 carats) and a single cabochon-cut ruby (0.27 carats) on the crown, adding a refined touch. The signature fluted decoration, a hallmark of Breguet watches, graces the caseband, further complementing its luxurious design. The watch measures 28.5 mm in diameter and has a height of 10.4 mm.
The dial is crafted from mother-of-pearl, creating a luminous and sophisticated backdrop. It is embellished with 54 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 0.2676 carat, alongside 23 brilliant-cut pink rubies (0.07 carat) and 18 brilliant-cut sapphires (0.06 carat), forming a harmonious blend of colors. At 7 o'clock, the pink rubies form delicate heart shapes, while a circle of sapphires begins, transitioning from pink to white. This circle is completed with white diamonds, encircling the entire dial. The dial also features applied white gold indices and Arabic numerals, and the blued Breguet hands add a timeless elegance to the design.
Powering this timepiece is the automatic movement, caliber 537/3, which consists of 191 components. The movement features a hand-guilloché rotor, adding a layer of artistry to its mechanical craftsmanship. Its escapement is made from silicon, ensuring enhanced precision and durability. With a thickness of 3.7 mm and a width of 19.4 mm, the movement is slim and compact, fitting seamlessly within the case to provide reliable timekeeping.
The Breguet Reine de Naples 9915 is paired with a red alligator leather strap, complementing its luxurious design. The strap is fastened with a white gold pin buckle, adorned with 28 brilliant-cut diamonds. This timepiece is a limited edition, with only 28 pieces available. Price upon request.
