A Unique Piece Honoring the Legendary Quetzal Bird in American Tradition
Bovet, in collaboration with ART in TIME, a prestigious Monaco gallery dedicated to exceptional timepieces, introduces the Monsieur Bovet “Quetzal,” a one-of-a-kind creation that embodies the pinnacle of Haute Horlogerie, artistic craftsmanship, and cultural symbolism.
This extraordinary timepiece pays homage to the mythical quetzal, a bird revered for its beauty and profound significance in Mesoamerican cultures.
Native to Central America, the quetzal is celebrated for its resplendent emerald-green plumage and striking red breast, a color combination that has made it legendary in both nature and mythology.
In ancient Mesoamerican civilizations, the bird was considered a sacred symbol of independence and transcendence, as it was believed that a quetzal could not survive in captivity. Inspired by these profound meanings, Bovet 1822 and ART in TIME have transformed this symbolism into an exquisite timepiece that reflects both artistic virtuosity and watchmaking excellence.
The Monsieur Bovet “Quetzal” is housed in an 18K white gold case, meticulously hand-engraved with fleurisanne motifs, a traditional decorative technique synonymous with Bovet’s heritage. Measuring 43.1 mm in diameter and 12.7 mm in height, it offers water resistance up to 30 meters. Inspired by classic pocket watches, it features a crown positioned at 12 o’clock, adding a refined touch. Further enhancing its elegance, ruby cabochons adorn the crown and lateral screws, echoing the quetzal’s vibrant red plumage.
This exceptional timepiece boasts a double-sided display, allowing collectors to admire two distinct faces. The first side showcases a hand-painted miniature of the quetzal, meticulously crafted over 71 hours by a master artisan. The level of detail captures the bird’s iridescent feathers and vivid red breast, bringing the mythical creature to life.
The second side reveals a mesmerizing openworked movement, accompanied by a guilloché green off centred dial, a nod to the quetzal’s radiant plumage, adorned with four delicate baguette-cut emerald indices at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock.
At its core, the Monsieur Bovet “Quetzal” is powered by the hand-wound Caliber 13BM09AI, beating at 21,600 vph (3 Hz) and offering an impressive 7-day power reserve.
The timepiece is fitted with a green alligator leather strap paired with a white gold pin buckle. Further enhancing its versatility, it features Bovet’s signature Amadéo convertible system, allowing it to transform seamlessly into a pocket watch. This exceptional piece is delivered with a matching white gold chain, enabling its wearer to appreciate both its horological artistry and heritage-inspired elegance in multiple ways.
This unique creation is exclusively available at ART in TIME, Monaco, reaffirming the gallery’s commitment to showcasing rare and meaningful works of horology. The Monsieur Bovet “Quetzal” is priced at EUR 150,000, approximately AED 576,200.
