Paying homage to the intricate mechanical craftsmanship of aeronautical gyrocompasses
The world of horology is filled with timepieces that exude elegance, precision, and a rich history. Among them, the Bell & Ross BR01 stands out as an iconic symbol of aviation. Introduced back in 2005, the BR01 collection draws inspiration from aircraft instruments, specifically the square shape reminiscent of cockpit gauges. This distinctive form not only pays homage to aviation but also serves a practical purpose, providing ample space for clear and legible displays. Numerals, markers, and hands are often well-spaced, enhancing readability, especially for those who prefer larger watch faces.
Two years later, Bell & Ross introduced the BR03, a smaller version of the BR01. It has become favored by those who appreciate a robust and stylish design without the extreme size of the 46mm BR01, and it was introduced in an elegant 42mm case.
In 2010, the brand launched the Flight Instruments Series, drawing inspiration from the essential instruments used in aviation, such as altimeters, airspeed indicators, compasses. These instruments are critical for pilots to navigate and operate aircraft safely. The collection includes the BR 01-96 Altimeter, the BR 01-92 Airspeed and many more based on the BR01 big case, while the recent models features the smaller case of the BR03, such as the BR 03-92 Red Radar Ceramic with graphics of an aircraft control radar, the BR 03-92 Radiocompass which takes its name from the Radio Compass.
This year, Bell & Ross has undergone a new transformation, introducing a 41mm case size for eight new references for the BR 03 collection in steel or ceramic.
Now, the flight instrument collection receives a new addition the ” BR 03 Gyrocompass” in 41mm micro blasted ceramic case (sandblasting on a micro-precision scale), inspired from the core component of a gyrocompass, which is a spinning wheel or rotor mounted on gimbals to allow it to freely rotate in any direction. The gyroscope's high rotational speed and stability are essential for its accuracy, commonly used in ships, submarines, and aircraft.
The fighter plane silhouette serves as a captivating focal point on the matte black dial, positioned so that the tip of the plane's nose aligns precisely with the watch indices. This design ensures that wearers can easily and accurately read the time. By relocating the numerical inscriptions to the outer flange, checking the time becomes an effortless and intuitive experience.
The hour hand is adorned in green Super-LumiNova, while the minute and second hands come in a matte black design, with luminous white tips. Notably, the watch features a circular date window positioned at 4:30.
Nestled within the timepiece is the automatic BR-CAL.302 caliber, representing the latest iteration of the Sellita SW300-1a movement. This mechanism operates at 28,800 vph and boasts 54 hours of power reserve, ensuring long-lasting and reliable performance.
The watch comes with a sleek black rubber strap with black PVD-steel pin buckle. Additionally, a fabric strap is included, providing versatile options for wearers to tailor their style and comfort preferences.
This watch is limited to 999 pieces, with a price of CHF 4,200 which is equivalent to AED 17,000.
